James Sadler was born in February 1753 to a family who ran a pastry shop in Oxford.
Antiques Road Trip comes to Oxford University to visit the locations of the flights of England’s first aeronaut. Early on the morning of October 4, 1784, James Sadler, the very first Englishman ever to fly, brought his self-built aircraft to Christ Church Meadow. With only a local journalist present to record the event, Sadler took to the skies. He floated gradually and silently in his balloon and became the very first person ever to look down upon Oxford. Sadler's flying career took off again later from Corpus Christi College.
